AquaCare proves perfect partner for Dorset Fire & Rescue

AquaCare Water Hygiene Services has completed the first  year of a three-year contract with Dorset Fire & Rescue Service, during which the company has carried out a county-wide programme of Legionella monitoring and management.

Work has been undertaken in 26 fire stations and three administrative buildings and included sampling water, monitoring temperatures, inspecting showers, examining water tanks and a range of other activities designed to minimise the hazards and ensure compliance with the stringent ACoP L8 regulations of Health & Safety at Work legislation. Whilst no major problems were found, some minor remedial plumbing works have been undertaken.

At quarterly progress meetings, AquaCare presented reports, explained and discussed their findings, and identified potential problems; a suitable forward action plan was prepared to implement appropriate control measures and any remedial work necessary.

While fire service facilities are generally considered to be low risk where Legionella is concerned, a thorough and responsible approach to water safety is still seen as essential, and AquaCare’s service has given Dorset Fire & Rescue the specialist expertise and resources to fulfil their obligations both to their own staff and the general public.
